Shawn & Emily Bateman, missionaries to Argentina

Shawn and Emily Bateman recently started a new outreach project at their church in Rosario, Argentina called “Our Jerusalem.” They had 20 church members show up to help pass out the new information packets. This past week, they had their first visitors come as a result of the new visitation project–Cintia and her son, Maxi. Pray for the “Our Jerusalem” outreach project and for the Bateman family as they share the gospel in Argentina!

Colombia’s First Leftist President

Colombia’s First Leftist President

Gustavo Petro, the leftist former mayor of Bogota and an ex-member of the M-19 guerrilla group, has been elected president of Colombia. According to the BBC, Mr. Petro ran a radical campaign and pledged to fight inequality through free university education, pension reforms, and high taxes on unproductive land. He also promised to enforce agreed upon peace deals with the FARC and to negotiate with still-active ELN rebels.

Mr. Petro has a lot to deliver on. Pray for him and for Colombia during this transition of leadership.

Brazil’s Cold Snap

Brazil’s Cold Snap

Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo are experiencing unusually cold temperatures this week, with snow and hail in certain parts of the south, as well as an atypical cold cyclone that hit southern Brazil and Uruguay. São Paulo, Latin America’s largest city, saw its lowest temperatures in over 30 years. Since the pandemic, the city now has a 30% homeless population, with roughly 35,000 people or more sleeping in the streets every night. While more beds are being added to São Paulo shelters this week, some homeless people have already died, and many fear what this cold front will do to others and the agricultural economy.

What may feel like normal fall/winter temperatures to those in the United States may feel unusually cold to Brazilians, especially those without proper clothing and shelter. And there’s still roughly one month to go before winter officially begins in Brazil. Pray for the Brasileños as they go through this unusual cold snap.
